Ocotillo
Desert shrub of southwestern United States and Mexico having slender naked spiny branches that after the rainy season put forth foliage and clusters of red flowers. Ocotillo will flower within 48 hours after a rainstorm then lose its flowers to conserve water. In Spanish, ocotillo means Little Torch.
